Do I need a visa to enter Ecuador?                     

Normal travelers entering Ecuador as tourists do not require visas. Tourists need a passport valid another 6 months when entering the country. If you plan to stay longer than three months you need to apply for a visa. For more and up to date information please contact your embassy.
 

Will there be anyone at the airport to pick me up?

Yes, we pick up at the International Airport “ Mariscal Sucre”, Quito and drive to Shishink. At the end of your stay we will  bring you back again. Saturday is the arrival/departure day.
 

What is Ecuador’s currency?

Since the year 2000 US dollar bills are the official currency. We recommend bringing only some cash and the much safer traveler’s Checks. Visa, MasterCard and Diners Club are most widely accepted credit cards.
 

How is the climate in Ecuador?                     

Ecuador’s climate consists of wet and dry seasons, but there are significant variations among the different geographical regions.

Shishink:      average 24ºC, warm and humid, 300m above sea level
Quito
:          average 14ºC, dry, 2800m above sea level
The Coast:   average 28°C, hot, above sea level
 

What do I need to bring? 

For Shishink: 

      ·        Loose fitting, light clothes
·
        Plastic slippers for entering the cascades
·
        Sun protection, hat and insect repellent
·
        Camera or video camera, flash lights (extra batteries)

For excursions: 

      ·   bring warmer clothes for the highlands (jacket..)
·
  rain protection clothes 
                    

Is Ecuador a dangerous country?                     

Ecuador is one of South American’s safest country, it is not at war, democratic and politically stable. There is no reason to worry about the safeness of your stay.
 

Do I need vaccinations? Are there any illnesses? 

Ecuador does not require anyone to have vaccinations to enter the country.

Though you should consider the following:
In addition to Polio, Diphtheria, and Tetanus, that you probably already have, there could be recommendations for Hepatitis A+B, Typhoid, Rabies or Yellow Fever if you plan to stay longer. To bring along Malaria prophylaxis can also be considered. Please consult your doctor in time (at least 4 weeks before leaving).

The closest hospital is only half an hour drive away.  
                

I am a vegetarian, is there vegetarian food?                    

Yes, in Shishink we offer vegetarian and non- vegetarian food at all times. 
 

Is there an age limit for the “School of Spanish Shishink”?                     

Yes, we admit students of 18 years and older.
 

Are there telephones or mobile net in Shishink?

No, don’t bring your mobile phone. At arrival you will have the chance to call your family.
